The small print
Ghouzja is a made-up word. It means whatever the person saying it wants it to mean. It began as a friendly gesture — eight of us walking the streets of Croatia, having an extraordinary week, saying hello in a way that was ours. That week was a ton of fun. This site is here so the word, and that feeling, can keep going.
Everything here is for pleasure, not for doctrine. It is not a religion, a movement, a medical condition, a political party, a trademark you should worry about, or a word with an official definition. It is not advice — medical, legal, linguistic, nautical, or otherwise. It is not a dictionary. Ghouzja is not a fact about the world. It is a greeting that got out of the street and onto a wall.
Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or to actual events, places, products, trademarks, or words in any language, is purely coincidental and wholly unintended. We did not borrow a real language. We are not affiliated with Croatia, the Adriatic, any government, any brand, or anyone who happens to share a vaguely similar noise. Croatia was the place. The word is ours.
How Ghouzja started is a true story among friends: the boat, the towns, the heat, the drinks, and that first hello. It is not a documentary with footnotes. A little sunlight, salt, Sarti, wine, bourbon, and some gummies may have polished the edges. The fun was real.
What continues is a myth. Not a lie — a myth: a small true beginning that refuses to stay small. Every meaning on this wall is another chapter someone hung on the word. Ghouzja Language has no academy, no dictionary, no priests. It only has the people who keep saying it. Believe it the way you believe a toast, a nickname, a story you tell because it still makes the table lean in. That is the correct amount of seriousness.
We are not revealing who those eight people are. We are not bots. We are real people who shared that week. Who we are does not matter. The names stay off the wall on purpose. What matters is the Ghouzja — the concept that lives in all of us, and brings the joy, happiness, and laughter that today’s world is short on. We all need more Ghouzja in us.
Your Ghouzja
Meanings and songs on this site are posted by people, for fun. They are not our opinions unless we posted them. By posting, you give this site permission to show your Ghouzja here. You still wrote it. Don’t post anything you wouldn’t say to the table on the upper deck.
No hate. No racism. No slurs. No threats. No porn. No pretending Ghouzja is a real diagnosis, a real language of a real people, or a way to harass someone. We may remove anything that is hateful, illegal, off-theme, or simply a bad Ghouzja, and we may block the account that brought it.
If you upload a song, you must have the right to do that. Don’t upload someone else’s music and call it Ghouzja. If you didn’t make it and you don’t have permission, it doesn’t belong here.
Your name
To add or rate, we ask for a first name, last name, email, and a password, and we check that the email works. That is so a bot cannot paper the wall, and so we can send the weekly letter if you asked for it. Names and emails are not shown on the wall. Only we see them, to run the site. We don’t sell them. We don’t rent them. We are not building a Ghouzja marketing empire.
The site may break. The boat may be late. We are not liable for anyone treating a made-up greeting as scripture, or for a meaning you wish you hadn’t posted. If something here upsets you, tell us and we’ll look.
If you don’t agree with having fun, or with the intent of this site, or with anything written here — go away. Find your own island. Don’t stay. This harbor is for people who want more Ghouzja in them.
Don’t hurt anyone’s Ghouzja.
